When a planet enters a new sign it takes on the qualities and interests of that sign. It can be understood as a kind of archetypal renewal that gives rise to origin stories, carrying sparks of insight that unfold throughout the planet’s passage of the sign. These principles have been at work as October cradled Jupiter’s annual move into a new sign, Scorpio (October 10th).
Crossing the threshold into Scorpio and the autumnal mysteries that take us inside, underneath and in-between things.
‘I desire’, Scorpio’s phrase, brings us into the depths. To know and articulate your desire you have to feel into things, explore, spelunk. This is a time for penetrating surfaces, getting to the bottom of things, secrets, mysteries, the intimacy of turning inward. As if from the fearless heart of Scorpio come these words of Rumi’s:
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from the beyond.
This is also a time of year when we turn to our ancestors whose legacies are in our bones and need to be honored. Celebrating our connection to the underworld in all hallows eve, samhain, dia de los muertos…
