On December 21st we enter the season of Capricorn, which marks another turning of the great wheel of the year as the Winter Solstice.
In challenging times, whether personal or collective, astrology is a great aid because it can identify in symbolic language what is trying to come into consciousness. Our inner growth seeds and blossoms in archetypal patterns, and astrology is a tool by which we can distinguish the laws that underlie the chaos that we feel.
Crossing the threshold into Scorpio and the autumnal mysteries that take us inside, underneath and in-between things.
‘I desire’, Scorpio’s phrase, brings us into the depths. To know and articulate your desire you have to feel into things, explore, spelunk. This is a time for penetrating surfaces, getting to the bottom of things, secrets, mysteries, the intimacy of turning inward. As if from the fearless heart of Scorpio come these words of Rumi’s:
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from the beyond.
This is also a time of year when we turn to our ancestors whose legacies are in our bones and need to be honored. Celebrating our connection to the underworld in all hallows eve, samhain, dia de los muertos…

The season of Libra is drawing to a close with the full moon upon us, and the evening hours arriving earlier each day. Mercury is in Libra now along with the Sun. Add to this pair Jupiter, and needless to say, I’ve had Libra on my mind. Since Libra is ruled by Venus, it is a symbol intimately related to the Goddess.
